POF Multimedia Socket

The Multimedia Socket is an in-wall socket Ethernet Switch (flush-mounted) with a POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) uplink for home and office installations.

The socket provides three Ethernet ports while only requiring two thin and flexible Plastic Optical Fibers and two wires for DC power supply (instead of three Ethernet installation cables when using a passive in-wall connector). The socket is thus the premium choice when it comes to retrofitting existing networks and for applications where cabling space is limited.

Working in the optical domain guarantees no influence from electrical fields (immission and emission).

The integrated VLAN tagging allows offering different services on the three interfaces and maximum control over allowed or restricted traffic and connections. Traffic entering one of the three Ethernet ports is automatically tagged with a predefined VLAN ID and priority. Traffic from the uplink is switched to its destined port according to the VLAN ID. Different traffic class queues for each priority level guarantee a maximum quality of service. Cumbersome and error prone VLAN configuration of the devices connected to the multimedia socket is therefore not required. The Multimedia Socket greatly simplifies the deployment of Triple-Play services.
